What does it truly entail to "live like a local"? The concept doesn't suggest becoming a local everywhere, nor do we claim to do so. In 2018, while working to bring my business idea to life, a close friend and I discussed our preferred way of traveling, ultimately sparking the tagline "live like a local." The goal was to design trips that felt akin to being shown around by local friends. Exploring a friend's hometown or country always seemed more engaging and authentic than simply relying on online research. This dialogue inspired the inception of Live Like A Local Getaways.
The journey began in 2018, but the roots trace back to 1992 when I ventured to Calabria, Catanzaro, Italy. Dissatisfied with traditional education and uncertain of my future, a friend presented an opportunity that transformed my life. Immersed in the Italian way of life, I found myself captivated. Although I returned to the UK, residing in Milton Keynes and working in logistics, the dream of returning to Italy lingered. At the age of 17, I even declared to my best friend that I would retire there someday.
Frequent visits to Italy with groups of friends and family exposed us to hidden gems thanks to my chef and bartender friends who had opened their own establishments. These acquaintances not only guided us to remarkable eateries but also welcomed us into their homes, sharing local recipes, wines, and sausages. The original itineraries, curated by friends made during my Italian stint and those in the UK involved in winemaking, cheesemaking, and charcuterie, formed the foundation for immersive food and wine experiences. Building on this blueprint, we extended these authentic encounters to others seeking to truly live like locals during their holidays.
